What is the Hokkaido Red Brick Architectural Award?

Organized by the prefectural government, the Hokkaido Red Brick Architectural Award has helped to promote community building based on close regional cooperation, as well as the improvement of architectural culture since 1988.

To be eligible for the award, buildings and architectural complexes must have been completed in Hokkaido within the last three years or so. They also must have been created with a focus on regionality and have an excellent design that creates beautiful scenery in harmony with history and the cultural climate.

The Nissay Building received the award for fiscal 2010 after passing a field screening and final screening in October and November of 2010 respectively.

Hokkaido Vice Governor Osamu Takai presented Nissay with a certificate and plaque at the award ceremony held on February 3, 2011.
